How to Prepare for Your Move and Pack Your Dining Room & China
Planning to move to or from the Dallas/Fort Worth area? Our NDMS Dallas Movers have put together this helpful moving tips video on how to pack and label your dining room china and other fragile items.
Packing your dining room and kitchen can sometimes be one of the most overwhelming parts of your move. The good news is our NDMS expert moving tips can make packing a lot easier. When preparing for a move, we suggest getting packing supplies one to two weeks before moving day. Using dish packs for china, glassware and other fragile items is highly recommended as it the material is exceptionally sturdy and corrugated with a double-wall construction.
Remember, when you are packing breakable items, you will want to line the bottom of your boxes with crumpled packing paper. Wrap all pieces of china and glassware individually in clean paper. Use several sheets of paper, start from the corner, wrapping diagonally and continuously tucking in overlapping edges. A double layer of newspaper serves well as an outer wrapping. A generous amount of paper padding and cushioning is required for all china and glassware. Larger china, glass plates, platters and other flat pieces are excellent as the lowest layer in a dish pack.
Wine is an investment that can be easily lost if mishandled during a move. Proper preparation and packing can minimize the risk of damage and spoilage. North Dallas Moving and Storage offers specially designed boxes to pack bottles and glassware. Some red vintage wines should be placed on their sides or upside down in the packing container to keep corks wet and sediment undisturbed. Even if you use extreme care in packing your wine, bottle shock may occur from the wine shaking within the bottle as it is moved., if opened too soon, loss of flavor may occur. To prevent this, be sure to allow the bottles to rest at your destination for at least a week.
Make sure you label the boxes with their content, this way you will find what you need faster at destination.
Packing can be tedious and time consuming, but if you approach it smartly, the end result may surprise you.
